‘Do not be longing for belonging’ said she, ‘For those with treasure, stood apart must surely be.’
I can’t decide what this piece of music is. Is it a song? Or a story? Are songs really stories anyway? All I know is that it captures a feeling, one of being unthethered, lost, in the wilderness.
It started with music and then came the voice: a sharp but soothing narrator of a long-lost children’s book.
I’m still using Garagband(!) so most of the instruments are from there. The piano is a native grand piano which I’ve customised a little. The strings are the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the chorus is the Jacob Collier Audience Choir.
The voice of the narrator is A.I. generated, at least for now. The unique cadence and texture of the recording isn’t something I could create myself for this demo. I tried using an A.I. tool as an experiment and was impressed enough with the results to keep moving forward.
The voice is reading a story written by me; the chords, notes and orchestration are all by me.
